I'm still unsure whether to have one page or two??? I went to a recruitment agency the other day and they said definitely one page, but then friends have told me that two looks more substantial...? |

Hi Karen,
In my opinion it depends how much relevant experience you have for the job you are going for. Keep that word in mind. As long as it's relevant it makes no difference if it's one or two pages. But definately dont go over 2 pages - try to rememebr that whoever is interviewing you has a job to do as well at the end of the day and probably doesnt have time to sift through hundred of pages of CVs from all the applicants they receive. Just keep it to the point and relevant - short sentences which get to the point, there's no need for fleshing out words like "nevertheless" or even "in addition"...just write it!
You might want to have one central document of two pages which inccludes all your qualifications, job history, education etc and then taylor it each time you apply for a job if you go for different roles. However, your CV should be taylored to the job you are going for so if you're constantly applying for the same position then there's no need to change it.
Hope that helps a bit!

I agree it all depends on experience, and the job. I've found one of the most important things to do with a CV is to taylor it to the job. Look at what they want and make sure you cover it in your CV (don't lie, if you haven't done it before) Just try to show you can do it and give examples.
Another good tip i was given recently, was your skills should jump out at the reader, so print it off and look at it as they would - not just on your PC screen.
Spell check, and then get someone else to and then ask your mum too, I'm really bad at spelling and you would never believe how many people miss bits.
Good luck!
